From next Tuesday, May 9, 2023, new Ombudsmanin accordance with the new schedule approved by the Special Commission for the Selection of Eligible Candidates for Election Ombudsman chaired by Manuel Garcia Correa (Alliance for Progress).
MP Garcia Correa said the new timetable was extended in 15 calendar days and Its purpose is to allow parliamentary groups to present their invited candidates.
Six congressmen voted in favour, none voted against, one abstained, and two congressmen who did not respond to the call to vote so that the Plenum Congress of the Republic have the right to choose.
Schedule and stages
The schedule retains the original 20 stages. The first step will be the new publication of the guidelines and timetable in the three national circulation newspapers, on the website of the Special Commission and the Congress of the Republic, and this will happen on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
From there, the dates and dates for the next 19 milestones are adjusted.
In the second stage, parliamentary groups can submit their invited applicant “only in the formats established by the Commission”, from February 20 to March 3, 2023.
Third stage: publication of the list of invited applicants for suitable candidates on the website of the Special Commission and the Congress of the Republic; Tuesday, March 7, 2023

The face-to-face interview with each applicant invited for a suitable candidate is stage 16 and will take place from Wednesday 12 to Friday 14 April 2023.
The next step is to meet Special Commission determine by voting the order of precedence (from highest to lowest number of votes) of the five eligible candidates and agree on the number of proposals to be submitted to the plenary session of the Congress in accordance with the order of priority established by voting. It will be April 28, 2023.
Step 19 will be to submit a suitable candidate proposal and publish it on the website Special Commission and Congress. This will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
Phase 20, the last in the process, will be the start date for the approval of the election of the Ombudsman in the plenary session of Congress starting on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
