Commission on Foreign Relations Congress approved on Tuesday a proposal for an agenda that proposes express disapproval to the statements made President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, against the Peruvian National Police (PNP). Likewise, a parliamentary working group chaired by Maria del Carmen Alva recommends that an initiative be put forward that seeks to declare that “persona non grata´.
In particular, the document, approved by 13 votes in favor, 3 abstentions and none against, proposes:express their opposition to the unacceptable expressions of Gustavo Petro UrregoPresident of Colombia, which are an insult to our national police of Peru, the Republic of Peru and, by downplaying the Holocaust, are also an insult to the entire Jewish people, many of whose members are citizens of Peru.
In addition, it seeks to declare Petro “persona non grata” and asks the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs “take the necessary steps to ensure that Gustavo Petro Urrego, President of the Republic of Colombia, does not enter the national territory”.
In the same vein, he asked the Foreign Office to use diplomatic channels to send a proposal for an agenda to the Colombian minister in Peru, Eufracio Morales.
Reaction in Congress: “We’re running out of friends”
After approval in Commission on Foreign Relations, Peru Libre spokesman Flavio Cruz pointed out that at this rate, our country could be left without friends, as in the case of Venezuela.
“We will be without friends. And if someone has no friends in Latin America and has problems in good relations with neighbors, then this is, for example, Venezuela. Since we always say we don’t want to be like Venezuela, it seems that at this rate we will be like them,” he told the press.
In response, Maria del Carmen Alva sarcastically clarified that she did not know friends were making such comments.
“I didn’t know that friends left such comments.. I need to talk to my friend Flavio Cruz because I think he is a little dizzy (…). This is not a break in diplomatic relations. These are different stages. We can’t stop talking here,” he said.
