This Friday, the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, convened Congress agree to define promotion of general electionsafter parliament recently rejected an initiative by the executive branch to clarify the date new elections.
During a press conference held at the Government Palace, representative remembered that his control presented two projects to promote elections. Thus, he called on the parliament to take a “responsible” attitude towards what a part of the population demands.
“In view of the responsibility of the executive, we have proposed two electoral bills, one for April 2024 and the other for 2023. I call on Congress in this role of the first power of the state, let’s take a responsible look at what the people and the streets are demanding, ”he said.
Boluarte Zegarrawho took office on December 7, succeeding Pedro Castillo, remarked that on the part of his government “we are not interested in seizing and maintaining power in an undemocratic way.”
“In that detachment, we presented those two bills [para adelantar las elecciones]. So I think Congress should come to an agreement and be able to respond to what the percentage of these protest marches requires,” he said.
