Congress President, Jose Williams Zapatareported last night, Thursday, that there is still no agreement on the resumption of traffic promotion of general elections at the plenary meeting, which will resume today.
Through the Parliament’s Twitter account, it was indicated that the Council of Spokesmen was unable to reach a consensus on the aforementioned issue.
“Regarding the request to the plenary to allow the processing of initiatives to advance the general election, the President of the Congress (…) reported that there is still no agreement on Council of Representatives expand the agenda and consider it in this session,” the tweet reads.
In addition, the head of the national mission indicated that vacancy movement against President Dina Boluarte, for this reason it also could not be scheduled in the plenary.
It should be noted that on January 10, a vacancy proposal was submitted against the head of state, nominated by Congressman Nieves Limachi from the Peruvian Democratic bench. This document was signed by deputies Alex Flores, Ruth Luke, Sigrid Bazan, Isabelle Cortesamong others.
In addition, the legislature Ezra Medina announced a second motion for a vacancy against President Boluarte.
Early elections postponed
It should be remembered that today, Friday, the current regular legislative assembly ends, at which the proposal for promotion of general elections will be approved in a second legislative vote beginning February 15.
In this regard, yesterday the President of the Congress indicated that the Board of Directors is waiting for the virtual minutes of the meeting. Council of Representatives find out if there was agreement to expand the agenda of the plenary meeting to include a project to advance the general elections.
“Congressmen from various benches referred to the requests that were sent to the Presidium (of Congress) regarding projects to promote the elections, and it was necessary for this Presidium to give them the regime established by the Rules of Procedure. It is the case that for the purpose of putting them on the agenda of this session, delivering a proposal of consent or a virtual act Council of Representatives”, specified Williams.
On Thursday morning, this virtual act received the support of 6 benches: Popular Power, Free Peru, Arbitration Bloc, Podemos Peru, Democratic Peru And Democratic change – together for Peruwith which the 66 votes needed to fulfill the request were reached.
However, after a few hours the bench Arbitration block He decided to withdraw his signature from the protocol, which, with 10 votes less, fell to the demand to expand the agenda of the plenum.
congressman Edgar Telloa member of said bench, defended the decision to withdraw his signature and denied that this was a double discourse.
“No, not at all (this is a double speech); on the contrary, the population should appreciate well that the way out of the crisis is to advance the elections, but with the addition of a popular vote to the referendum to the Constituent Assembly. (…) It seems here that we do not want a way out of the crisis, we cannot deceive the population, because advancing elections is not a way out of the crisis that the country is going through,” he said.
In an interview with Everything is known, the parliamentarian insisted that the way out of the crisis that the country is experiencing “cannot be resolved with the advancement of the elections”, and recalled that this situation had not previously improved the national reality. Faced with this, the parliamentarian reiterated his proposal to advance the elections “in any format”, but with the addition of consultation for constituent Assembly.
In this situation, and on the verge of completing the work of the legislature, reaching a consensus to move forward with the elections and fixing the date of these elections is still uncertain.
