The second criminal division of the national judiciary of appeal orordered the release of those involved in the case after the appeals were declared valid represented by their lawyers. The reason for these appeals was the annulment of the decision of Judge John Pillaki, who ordered all of them to be held in pre-trial detention for 10 days.
With this in mind, prosecutor Luis Martínez Morales, a member of the Task Force of Prosecutors on Combating Corruption in Government, determined that these four people are moving from the status of detainees to “under investigation are quoted” within this case.
The judge also ordered the continuation of the preliminary proceedings against the former Commander-in-Chief of the National Police, Javier Gallardo Mendoza, and other employees of this institution, who are also participating in the preliminary investigation.
Case
According to prosecutors, defendants were required to pay between $20,000 and $30,000 for promotions in Castillo Terrones’ first year in office.
Former secretary-general of the presidential office, Bruno Pacheco, told prosecutors in August this year that at least 10 PPP officers had been promoted for money. The $20,000 payment allegedly went through PNP non-commissioned officers Jorge Tarrillo Galvez and Nilo Yrigoin Chávez, who allegedly accompanied the ex-president.
