Changing the look is often a source of renewal, especially when it comes to changing the color of the hair. For those who don’t want to dye all their hair, it is possible to do highlights: a process of coloring some strands, but with the background in its original form, most of the time.
For coloring to be done safely, hair must be hydrated to prevent dryness. “The strands cannot be divided when combing and they cannot be without elasticity. This result is a sign that the hair fiber is already weak, as it has lost moisture”, explains Rodrigo Cintra, hair stylist.
Extra care after coloring
When making lights, the hair care must be redoubled. The professional advises using capillary solar filter and moisturizing in the salon and at home. A good tip is to use specific treatment masks for hair with highlights. They help to maintain the color, leaving the wires shiny.
Avoid the rubber effect
Sometimes, in the first few days after coloring, the hair feels rubbery and dry. This occurs due to the loss of keratin, protein and pigments. “But there is a system with a product that protects the strands during the coloring and lightening process, treating them and recovering them from the inside out, in all its layers”, clarifies Rodrigo Cintra. To prevent the famous ‘rubber effect’, use specific products for hair with highlights.
How to fix the color of the hair?
Use a toning shampoo or conditioner once or twice a week to remove yellowing from your hair. “Do not abuseproduct, because it can change the color of the hair”, advises Rodrigo. “Another tip is to invest in sunscreen to minimize the effects of the sun, which fades the color,” he adds.
