The BBC has published a list of 100 women from around the planet who inspire and influence the world this year. Among them there are eight Ukrainians. The list is published on the website of the publication.
The list includes First Lady Olena Zelenska, who actively worked to improve women’s rights and promote Ukrainian culture.
Also inside it was a Ukrainian paramedic Yulia Paevskaya with the call sign “Taira”. He spent more than three months in captivity in Russia after helping to evacuate civilians from Mariupol.
The list includes mathematician Marina Vyazovskaya, who became the second woman in history to win the prestigious Fields Medal, often referred to as the Nobel Prize in mathematics.
Journalist Kristina Berdinskikh is among the top 100 influential women as she travels across the country and makes reports from regions affected by Russian shelling.
Human rights lawyer Oleksandra Matviychuk, who has led the Center for Civil Liberties for 15 years, but is co-recipient of this year’s 2022 Nobel Peace Prize for her work documenting Russia’s war crimes following the massive invasion of Ukraine.
Pediatrician Irina Kondratova entered the list due to the fact that, together with the team, she equipped the delivery room in the basement of the Kharkiv Regional Perinatal Center.
Human rights activist Yulia Sachuk, head of the NGO for women with disabilities Fight For Right, continues to work with international organizations to coordinate evacuation plans to save the lives of thousands of Ukrainians with disabilities after the start of the war.
And the commander of the medical battalion of the Hospitallers, Yana Zinkevich. He personally carried 200 wounded soldiers to safety.
