“My goal is to make a difference”

Ju Romano is Máxima’s Digital Cover in November and brings an important discussion on women’s empowerment

Ju Roman it’s inspiring! Those who follow the work of the digital influencer on social networks know that she presents speeches about self-love, self-acceptance and female empowerment.

This power of talking to other women makes her and her process an inspiring part of the lives of those who follow her and also those who are touched by her content.

Cover of maximum in November, Ju started telling what she did for herself during the year 2022.

“I went back to therapy, which is really cool. I think therapy is one of the greatest self-care we can do for ourselves. It’s about looking inward. I hadn’t done it for over ten years and I decided to go back to review these issues. The biggest point was, in fact, looking back at myself.”she said.

Ju talked about another change, this time, aesthetic: “One thing I did, that I always wanted to do, was get my five piercings. If you think about it, society imposes saying that you are no longer old enough for this. People say, ‘Shouldn’t you be thinking about having a baby instead of putting those earrings on?’ But I’m thinking about it too, one thing doesn’t exclude the other. I changed my hair color! This marks a phase for me! I’m thinking about my son, focused on my house. That blonde hair brought me even more maturity.”🇧🇷

“I started a new sport and I really like talking about physical activity, because being a fat woman, the two topics are always oppressively related or distant, in the sense that a fat person cannot exercise unless it is to lose weight. I started to do boxing, because, another thing that I think is missing in a woman’s life, is having contact with our aggressiveness. Women are very tamed. Everyone is angry! I loved taking up boxing!”she said.

And they had dreams too: “I fulfilled a dream of setting up my office at home. It’s really cool to be able to see the fruit of our honest work taking shape. I managed to pay for everything with my work, it made me very proud.”

It is not from now that she is, every day, in the lives of her followers. It’s been more than 15 years telling her story on social media: “When I started working with the internet, it was very unintentional, but I am very disciplined, so things happened. It was taking shape. I’ve been working with this for 15 years and seeing this happening is having the feeling that it’s real “🇧🇷

Throughout her career, the digital influencer has shared each of these achievements with her faithful followers, whom she affectionately calls “my girls”.

Higor Bastos (@higorbastos)

“I have the chance to share special moments with my virtual friends”, commented.

This exchange is what makes the relationship between them so unique and special. It is in these moments that Ju helps women to empower themselves.

“We exchange a lot. Things I discover, things they tell me. Most people are really nice. This is a daily process of ups and downs. On the internet, you will always show what you want. People have a normal life and real life. There are some themes that I deal with in therapy that I bring up for us to think about together, because they are common themes. I like to share with them that this issue of self-esteem and self-love are daily constructions. These points will always be questioned, because we experience aesthetic pressure, fatphobia, so they will always be put to the test. You are constantly having to reinforce yourself, rediscover and rebuild yourself.”, she said.

Ju is there, side by side, with her followers to help them in the process of strength and empowerment: “It’s a daily process, but it gets easier when you don’t feel alone. When I went online, I found people who were just like me, who felt like me, who had the same complexes, the same traumas. the part It’s nice to find out that there are people like you and that you don’t feel alone.

“My job is to be helpful in some way. Each person is a universe she said.

About the criticism and hate messages, the digital influencer revealed that she is trying to look at it with “different eyes”.

“We have to learn to look at criticism as a matter of the other. It’s not my problem, it’s the person’s problem. So, I try to help the person how to resolve this issue in him. It’s taking that hate that’s directed at you but isn’t about you and turning it into something useful.” explained.

Ju told how it all started: “When I started, I got comments that said, ‘You’re fat and can’t talk about fashion.’ As if that were a determining factor for anything! At that time, the media only reinforced aesthetic standards even more, so I decided to say it anyway: ‘Since everything I think is going to be considered wrong, I’m going to say it’. Often, we don’t believe in our potential, we think we’re too small and invisible. We don’t know the power that each person has.

To inspire! This is what Ju seeks to do, daily, in the lives of his girls on social networks: “I always talk about the inspiration cycle! Imagine the situation: a fat woman goes to the beach in a bikini and feels good and happy. Many people will look and judge, but if you have a woman who is under an umbrella, wearing clothes, and you look at that and think ‘I also want to be happy’, you have transformed her life”.

“When I started, that’s what I thought! If I make a couple of people rethink, I’ve already won in life.”, commented.

The influencer told details of a very special achievement: “Once, I was on the cover of a magazine and it was the first time that society saw a fat woman on the cover of a fashion magazine. At that moment, this cover made communicators rethink the way they talk to women. How women talk to other women. It’s about naturalizing the body!

“I won’t be able to transform anyone’s life, but I can make it better and that’s what matters to me.”, confessed.

And the exchange with her girls remains the most special moment of this work: “Fifteen years of doing this and every time someone sends me a report, I cry. The twinkle in the eye never ends!”.

“My goal is to make a difference!”, ended the digital influencer.
