For many people, giving up is not an option. And for the actress and presenter Juh Campos, 30 years old, is no different. Although she grew up in the midst of many difficulties in the municipality of Presidente Figueiredo, in the state of Amazonas, and went through the shock of actually becoming aware of racial prejudice during her move to Rio de Janeiro, she did not let the shuttle fall down and continues to shine. and inspiring the public.
“There is a Juh from the past, who believed a lot and had to go through a lot to build the Juh of today. And that she continues to work hard to transform my experiences into an instrument of empowerment for black women. Because, I already knew about racism and prejudice, but I only became aware of how important and necessary it is to raise more debates about it, when I arrived in Rio de Janeiro and I felt it much more strongly and cruelly”said the artist.
Current muse Rio de Prêmios, Miss Amazonas and Vice Miss Bumbum Brasil, Juh said that today she understands that many of the difficulties she went through in life were related to her color, but she only really understood that, after being prevented from entering a Hotel in South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, for being black and apparently poor, due to the simple clothes she wore at the time. The case, which gained some repercussion, according to the artist, inspired her to study and want to understand more about her flag, in order to not only prevent it from happening to her again, but also to become a spokesperson for other black women. .
“I understood at that moment how much we need to advance in representation in different spaces. I came to see in a recent survey that we have about 25% of women in leadership positions, but it made me sad to know that of these, only 3% are black women. This shows us, as the research showed, that there is a giant abyss of rights that we still have to face. And it’s something that can’t be left for later. We need to act today, so that the new generations of black women in the country have their rights guaranteed and are recognized for their competence, and not just for their beauty and/or curvy body”explained Juh.
And continued: “As I studied more about our flag, I also understood the real need to reflect more on the role of each one in this movement. It was no longer possible to remain silent as I was. Today I want to highlight the advances in the representation of black women, especially in art and culture, which is my area. But not just. Because it is not today that we are already true examples of strength and resistance”.
Owner of an unshakable self-esteem, Juh also said that all the strength to not give up came from her family, especially her mother, whom the artist makes a point of caring for and repaying all the support, love and dedication.
“For all the difficulties we’ve been through, since I was a little girl I’ve helped my mother in the commerce. And that’s how it is until today, because I keep trying to help my family as much as I can. Now, for example, I’m able to allow her (mother ), do not work and thus have more time to stay at home and take care of yourself. She has been through a lot of physical and emotional stress in recent years and this has left her with sequels that make her very sad and depressed. Which determined my decision. I do everything for her , ever”, concluded Juh, excited.
