Hypercar in liquid hydrogen can be the basis of the new racing category in 2028.
In Le-Man’s legendary event in Le-Man, Toyota introduced the concept of the new GR LH2 Hyd2 racing concept, which operates in liquid hydrogen.
The prototype is a continuation of the previous GR H2 concept, which first presented two years ago, and displays Toyota’s ambitions to create cars that are friendly career using the latest technologies.
The GR LH2 model is based on the proven GR010 hybrid chassis, developed by the European Division of Toyota Gazoo Racing in Cologne, while a power plant in liquid hydrogen was developed in Japan. Despite the great interest, the company has not yet disclosed the technical details of the concept.
As the Vice President of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, Casuki Nakajim noted, now the company is not in a hurry to forecasts about the date of launching serial production or participation in the competition: “We are careful about the statements of the goals.”.
According to Nakakjima, Toyota aims to develop a hydrogen engine of internal combustion, which can be a real alternative to both traditional ice and electric cars, and are ready to invest in future technology.
It is expected that FIA that by 2028 can create a separate category for cars with hydrogen power plants – and Toyota seems to be in the first place.
