A local Roman Catholic priest has lost his position after allowing the filming of a music video for singer Sabrina Carpenter, angering church leaders.
In New York, Roman Catholic priest Jamie Gigantievlo was removed from his post after the release of Sabrina Carpenter’s video for the song Feather, the BBC reports.
In the video, the singer dances in a short dress at the altar, and obscene language can be heard in the background of a crucifix. The clip caused outrage, and Bishop Robert Brennan launched an investigation.
“I regret to report that the investigations conducted by Alvarez & Marsal and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP uncovered evidence of serious violations of diocesan policies and protocols,” the bishop said in a statement.
Jamie Gigantievlo himself admitted his guilt, explaining that approving the filming was a reckless move and that he did not realize the provocative nature of the video.
During the investigation, other violations were revealed: facts of mismanagement and unauthorized financial transfers in the position of vicar for the development of the diocese.
The diocese condemned this incident and promised to prevent similar situations in the future, noting the importance of preserving the spiritual value of church shrines.
It was previously reported that Katy Perry was involved in a scandal for filming in the Spanish Ses Salines reserve without proper permission.
A church was dedicated in Brooklyn after singer Sabrina Carpenter’s music video.
