The filmmaker admitted that due to emphysema caused by years of smoking, he is forced to move around with an oxygen mask.
American director David Lynch spoke openly for the first time about his critical health condition.
In 2020, he was diagnosed with emphysema, a chronic lung disease that causes severe shortness of breath. According to him, the cause of the disease is long-term smoking, which he started at the age of eight. Even after the diagnosis, it took the director two years to end the addiction.
He remembers the moment he realized he had to stop: “I saw the warning like it was written on the wall: ‘You’ll die in a week if you don’t stop.’ only option.”
Currently, Lynch’s condition has deteriorated significantly. He cannot move without an oxygen mask and even needs support to move between rooms.
“I could barely walk across the room like walking with a plastic bag over your head,” shared the director.
Because of the disease, Lynch rarely left the house, but this did not stop his creativity. He continues to work on new projects and is even considering the possibility of remote directing.
It was previously reported that Alyona Alyona shared her experience of battling depression and anxiety for the first time.
