The star was awarded the title of Dame of the British Empire. The order was presented by the eldest son of King Charles III.
British actress Imelda Staunton received the Order of the British Empire during Prince William’s investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, the Daily Mail reports.
In particular, the 68-year-old star, who played the late Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series The Crown, received her title for her services to drama and charity. She was supported at the ceremony by her husband Jim Carter and daughter Bessie.
She joined a number of stars including Simon Le Bon and X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson to receive the royal honor from Prince William. Upon receiving the title, Staunton expressed his happiness to be among the honorees.
“I am ashamed that I have been placed on the same level with great artists and women who have been examples for many. It is their talent, dedication, intelligence and strength that has been a pointer for all of us, that has set the bar for where we aspire,” said the actress.
It was previously reported that the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, awarded members of the group ABBA the Order of the Vasa for their outstanding contribution to Swedish and world musical culture.
