Emma Hemming shares how her husband’s illness started and how she explained the diagnosis to their children.
The wife of the famous actor Bruce Willis, the model Emma Hemming, openly spoke about the first symptoms of her dementia, with which she has been living for the last two years.
In an interview with Town&Country, he admitted that the disease is not easy to diagnose. Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia, a speech disorder that is a sign of dementia, but not the disease itself. The first signs appeared in the form of changes in the actor’s speech, which the family saw as a return of his childhood stutter.
“When her language started to change, it seemed like it was just part of the stuttering that I didn’t think was a form of dementia,” Emma recalls. He explained that the disease affects the temporal part of the brain, and then the frontal part, gradually affecting the ability to walk, speak and make decisions.
The model also spoke candidly about how she shares information with their children. On the advice of her therapist, she talks honestly with her daughters and doesn’t hide the truth. “They know that dad will not recover,” she added, noting that despite the difficulties, the family is trying to support the actor in this challenge.
It was previously reported that Bruce Willis’ daughter Tallulah published rare photos from the family archive, where the actor posed with her at home.
