Non-binary artist uses hybridity to express herself and showcase yet another talent from the LGBT+ community
Efe is a fairy who explodes colors and warmth in the choice of tones that make up her works. After studying at the Guignard School – State University of Minas Gerais, she continued her training in artistic residencies in Brazil and abroad, with transformative experiences in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Uruguay and Mexico.
Efe Godoy studied Fine Arts at the Guignard School. Her first solo exhibition, held in 2015, was called “Por Enquanto Pássaros” (For Now Birds), and was held at the BDMG Cultural Art Gallery. The exhibition included more than eighty drawings by the artist. In November of the same year, she participated in the Telas Urbanas project, developed on Avenida Antônio Carlos, in the Pampulha region of Belo Horizonte, with her work highlighted in a scientific paper presented in 2016, at the 12th Brazilian Congress of Research and Development in Design.
In 2016, his performance Homem-Capivara was selected to participate in the 6th Edition of Bolsa Pampulha. In this performance, Godoy wears the artificial head of a capybara, made by members of Grupo Pigmaleão, and replicates the animal’s routine, including “sunbathing in the gardens of Burle Marx.”
Between June and July 2018, during an artistic residency at the Montevideo Photography Center, she held the exhibition Hasta convertirse en la cosa observada, together with the artist Marci Silva. In the same year, between October and November, she participated in an artistic residency at the Adelina Institute, in São Paulo, expanding LGBTQIA+ visibility.In 2019, she held the solo exhibition Estranho familiar, at Galeria Celma Albuquerque, with works created by the artist in the previous two years. Godoy also began to live in the place where the exhibition was held, and the works she created during that period were added to the exhibition. In addition to being a visual artist, Efe is the lead singer of the psychedelic music band Absinto Muito and a queer icon.
