In a scenario where many events face cancellations and postponements, the party reaffirms its commitment to the scene, especially based on black, peripheral, urban and LGBT+ culture.
“We want to highlight, especially at this time, the importance of having festivals held by those who move and produce cultural scenes despite the lack of investment and sponsorship – which is even scarcer when we talk about black platforms. In another edition of our festival, we will continue with a curation based on our 10-year trajectory in dialogue with diverse black narratives in Brazil and around the world”, says Artur Santoro, cultural agitator and partner at Batekoo.
This year, the tone of the program, which will feature black artists from different regions of the country, is a tribute to the community that transformed the platform into a truly iconic multicultural movement dedicated to acting as an instrument of social transformation, subverting structures and finding new paths within Brazilian productions. The event will feature three stages, covering plural sounds and a series of training cycles. The goal, always, is to promote connection between Afro-diasporic communities and celebrate queer diversity.
The first confirmed attraction is the Rio de Janeiro band Poeira Pura, which brings a disruptive proposal by combining samba with elements of rock, trap and electronic music. Led by samba artists Rogério Família and Mateus Professor, the group is betting on a new aesthetic for the genre, keeping samba as the protagonist while experimenting with new sounds and discourses.
Maurício Sacramento, CEO, founder and creative director of Batekoo, highlights: “This celebration was carefully thought out to replicate the experiences in which our community comes together to celebrate their identities, something that Batekoo has done for the last 10 years throughout the country and to celebrate mainly the network that makes our universe possible in all this time as a brand. Staying afloat as a company led by black people is a constant struggle, but we remain steadfast because we know that on the other side there is a community that, beyond the experiences, shares the same purposes.”
