Agreement covers memory, truth, and LGBTQIA+ rights, the elderly and people with disabilities
The agreement covers technical cooperation projects, exchange of good practices and promotion and defense of rights. “This memorandum strengthens the partnership between Brazil and Chile, especially on sensitive and fundamental issues for our societies,” said the Brazilian minister.
The memorandum includes cooperation in the field of memory and truth, as an extension of Brazil’s visit to Chile in September 2023, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Chilean military coup. The agreement covers policies and programs aimed at promoting the rights of families of missing persons, exchanging good practices in the search for victims of forced disappearance, and sharing documentation on violent events during dictatorships.
Actions aimed at the LGBTQIA+ population include national regulations on gender identity, equal marriage, and recognition of intersex people, especially children and adolescents. In addition, the agreement includes a job quota for transgender people, access to comprehensive healthcare, and support and protection mechanisms.
The memorandum also promotes the collection of data and statistical information related to LGBTQIA+ people to support public policies, in addition to measures to strengthen the work of civil society organizations in promoting and defending these rights.
