Author of “Red, White & Royal Blue” releases “The Pairing”, exploring queer hearts
In a recent interview, McQuiston shared her anticipation and nervousness about the book’s release. “Writing a novel is a very vulnerable thing. Even when it’s not based on personal experiences, it’s still an emotionally exposed job,” explained the author, who used crochet as a way to cope with pre-release anxiety.
McQuiston rose to fame with 2019’s “Red, White & Royal Blue,” which follows Alex, the son of the U.S. president, and Henry, the heir to the British throne. The novel explores the evolution of their relationship, which initially seems antagonistic but develops into something deeper and more passionate. The book (which also made its way to the big screen) quickly won over audiences, especially during the pandemic, becoming a global success and being named one of Time magazine’s best romance novels.
In addition to releasing The Pairing, McQuiston is currently working on a sequel script for an adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue, though details about the project are still being kept under wraps.
