Leonardo Hatanaka seeks reinstatement and payment of wages after unfair dismissal
The dismissal came after he revealed his sexual orientation to the company, resulting in a series of discriminatory actions. On April 30, 2024, an Argentine court ordered Hatanaka’s immediate reinstatement to his position and the payment of back wages due to the discrimination he suffered for being part of the queer community.
Hatanaka, an LGBT+ activist, was transferred to Buenos Aires in 2021 at the company’s request. After coming out as gay, he faced resistance from Sanofi Genzyme, which refused to cover the costs of infertility treatments and other expenses related to the birth of his son, Matteo, in May 2023.
He had notified the company about the joint pregnancy process, complying with the notice period policy, but was dismissed shortly afterwards, with effect from May 31, 2023, across all affiliates of the Sanofi group.
