Tesla CEO moves SpaceX to Starbase and ex-Twitter to Austin after new legislation
The new legislation, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, has heightened tensions between Musk and the California government. “This is the final straw. Because of this law and others before it that attack families and businesses, SpaceX will be moving its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas,” Musk said online. He also confirmed that SpaceX would be moving its headquarters from San Francisco to Austin.

Gov. Gavin Newsom quickly responded, posting a screenshot of a 2022 post by Donald Trump in which the former president ridiculed Musk for allegedly asking for help with his projects.
In addition to this public exchange of accusations, a school district in Southern California (Chino Valley) has filed a lawsuit against the state, challenging the new gender identity policy. The district argues that the school community should not hide information from parents, who have a constitutional right to know what their children do at school.
Musk’s motivation is LGBT legislation, but since 2015, nearly 300 companies have moved their headquarters from California to Texas, with more than half of those moves occurring in the past few years, according to the Financial Times. Earlier this year, Musk moved Tesla’s legal headquarters to Texas after a Delaware court rejected his $56 billion pay package, and Neuralink’s legal headquarters from Delaware to Nevada.
