The billionaire’s brain chip company hopes to make its technology available to more patients over time.
The American company Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, is preparing to implant a brain chip in a second patient. Musk himself announced this, writes Bloomberg.
During the video message, the founder of the company expressed the hope that by the end of the year the number of patients with such devices will be measured in “huge numbers.” The billionaire and several Neuralink employees also discussed the device’s current capabilities and future prospects, including treating paralysis and memory loss.
In the short term, the company aims to help patients with traumatic brain and spinal injuries by allowing them to control phones and computers with their thoughts. The long-term goal, Musk said, is to reduce the risks to civilization associated with artificial intelligence by creating “a closer symbiosis between human and digital intelligence.” The idea was to give people superpowers.
The team also discussed the next generations of devices. Musk noted that patients with older models should be able to upgrade to newer ones.
It was previously reported that Elon Musk’s company Neuralink has implanted the first human brain implant.
