Brazil sees 400% increase in LGBT+ applications

Among the 150 pre-candidates, 132 are community members and 18 are committed allies

The Voto Com Orgulho Program, an initiative of the National LGBTI+ Alliance, released a bulletin revealing a 400% increase in LGBT+ candidacies for the 2024 elections. Among the 150 pre-candidates, 132 are members of the community and 18 are committed allies. Only three are running for mayor.

According to the Alliance, in the 2020 elections, the number of pre-candidacies from people from the community or allies did not reach 30.São Paulo leads in the number of pre-candidacies, with 34 candidates, followed by Rio de Janeiro (22) and Paraná (14).

SP leads the list
Despite the predominance of center-left candidates, the bulletin shows a pluralistic panorama of political representation. Of the pre-candidates, 94 identify with the left, 33 with the center-left, 12 with the center, seven with the extreme left, two with the right and two with the center-right.
