Girls Hang With Other Legendary Stars in Magazine’s 60th Anniversary Issue
Legendary stars are featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue’s 60th anniversary edition, including iconic athletes like superstar couple Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird. The magazine published on the 15th features the couple on the cover, complete with an affectionate pose.
Bird, the retired WNBA star, previously posed for SI Swimsuit in 2022, while Rapinoe, the former USWNT player, appeared in the magazine in 2019 and 2023. This time, however, the pair posed together for a photo shoot Legends special.
In an interview with his future wife, Bird expressed excitement at being photographed for the historic issue. “I’m sure there’s a meaning to this of us being both athletes, gay athletes, a couple, all those sweet, wonderful, powerful things that being in this anniversary edition, or the Legends edition, brings,” Bird said.
“There’s something wonderful about being in the Legends edition for what it represents, but honestly, I think it’s amazing to do this with you, personally. I know there is an external meaning, but this is significant.”
Rapinoe agreed with Bird about the sentimental aspect of being selected for the 60th anniversary edition. She also admitted how surreal it was to be surrounded by so many professional supermodels. “It’s like having your best friend, traveling around… we get to experience this wild part of life together,” Rapinoe said.
