Montage explores the relationship between three friends who start to live together, revealing many secrets and the experience of sexuality
The Nós Três Teatro Group, founded in 2019 and made official in 2023 by actors Bruna Félix, Dhan Lopes and Lucas Lopes Valadares, debuts with the play “Top Summer Hits”, which will be showing at Funarte from May 16th to 26th, from Thursday to Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm, with a Libra interpreter in all sessions. With dramaturgy and direction by Vinícius de Souza, the production explores the relationship between three friends who start to live together, revealing many secrets and the experience of sexuality in the late 1990s.
The group arose from the desire to bring to the stage issues that are common to the members, initially focusing on LGBT+ narratives. “We wanted to approach the topic in a non-pamphlet way, and then fiction emerged, where the subjects are inserted indirectly into the lives of each character. We reached a more minimalist format, as if the viewer were looking through the window of the house”, explains actor Dhan Lopes.
Set in 1999, the play features the characters Luis Antônio, Eltin and Vana, who move from the interior of Minas Gerais to live together in a shack in the suburbs of Belo Horizonte. With five months of rent behind, they start selling pirated CDs to pay the bills.
The work addresses how homosexuality was experienced in the late 1990s, especially the part that needed to be kept secret. “There are three LGBT characters who live together and don’t talk openly about it. Everything emerges between the lines, and through a series of events, they are forced to break their silence. The play takes place at a time when empathy and acceptance were not heard of; it was every man for himself”, explains playwright and director, Vinícius de Souza.
In a time full of taboos, repressions and oppression surrounding sexuality, the public follows not only the characters’ homosexual relationships, but also their homosexual expression.
“It’s as if we reflected on the homosexual experience in Brazil today, in 2024, in light of what it was like in the late 1990s. For a generation that lives in the Pabllo Vittar era, it’s a reminder of what these people’s lives were like 25 years ago. years”, ponders Vinícius, who was inspired by family members. “This is the universe of my adolescence, of the memories of the experiences of some relatives. There was always the friend’s story, and when I was a child, they lived everything a little hidden. It’s a play full of secrets”, he concludes.
