The star, best known for his role as Ivan Dovbush in the adventure-historical drama Dovbush, noted that he could not forgive himself for not being up front.
The Ukrainian theater and film actor, as well as the theater director Alexei Gnatkovsky, pleaded guilty due to reservation from mobilization. He spoke about this in an interview on the YouTube project Rozmova.
“When the war came, it was a paradox for me, I now live in cognitive dissonance. I have 30 performances every month. During the war, people go to the theater in large numbers. I did not understand it at first, I thought to myself that I will not be like this to study, we all went to the military registration and enlistment office, registered, and I realized that I have to do something, because I have a reservation . My brothers are fighting in Mariupol, Azovstal , and captivity ..And I’m sitting here and suffering like crap.
He added that he could not go on stage until he realized that wartime theater helps Ukrainians survive personal tragedies.
“And I didn’t think I would go on stage. And when we started playing plays, literally a week after the full-scale, I couldn’t go on stage. How can we play? People are dying here, we are turning gray. But when we started to play, I realized that it was very important – the people evacuated, we played in bomb shelters, and everyone wanted a comedy – people came from Mariupol to the theater and tell us what to do we need this, we didn’t cry, but now we came and cried This is both art therapy for those in the hall and for me….” said the actor.
We remind you that the previous actor Bogdan Kolesnik died in front. He worked at the Osobistosti Theater and the Ukrainian Modern Theater.
