Booklet explains how trans fathers and mothers can register their children

Mother’s Day is coming with all its charm, but we must recognize that there are many challenges – even more so for trans people. One of the obstacles is when it comes to registering the child, which can be hampered by the prejudice of those who are preparing the document. The National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (Antra) created free guidance material with this moment in mind.

It is the “Declaration of Birth Booklet (DNV) alive for registering children of trans people” (access by clicking here). There are six pages of clear, information-rich text for anyone who has just become a mom or dad or is almost there.

“Many trans people have formed families, including the possibility of having sons and daughters, but end up facing several problems when registering their children – especially trans-centered couples”, reaffirms Antra.

Material is free

The entity also explains that for trans people there is a “difficulty” (in quotation marks) when filling out the Declaration of Live Birth (DNV), the baby’s first document. This “difficulty” occurs because it is established that the mother is the person who gave birth and gave birth.

For Antra, this classification of mother is given “by the binary biologization of genders that excludes the bodies of trans men and transmasculine people”. In the booklet, Antra explains how it should be done in each couple configuration.
