If convicted, Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Alec Baldwin’s lawyers asked the judge to dismiss the manslaughter charges in the death of Ukrainian cameraman Galina Hutchins. The Express reported this.
Specifically, they believe prosecutors broke the law when preparing the indictment.
State prosecutors allegedly violated a court order by disclosing information to the media and also gave grand jury instructions about involuntary manslaughter that “worked unfairly against Baldwin.”
“Enough is enough. This is an abuse of the system and an insult to an innocent person whose rights have been grossly violated. The court should reject the accusation,” the lawyers said.
The motion also alleged that the prosecution “unlawfully deprived” the grand jury of evidence in favor of Baldwin, which included not giving Baldwin’s witnesses “an opportunity to testify.”
The lawyers believe that the prosecutors “publicly dragged Baldwin into the cesspool created by their misconduct, not forgetting the fact that serious criminal charges have been hanging on his chairman for two and a half years.” Baldwin was again charged with manslaughter in January of this year and faces a trial in July in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
It was previously reported that the gunman of the movie “Rust,” during the filming of which Alec Baldwin shot and killed Ukrainian cameraman Galina Hutchins, was found guilty by a jury.
Alec Baldwin’s reaction to the first court verdict in the Hutchins case has been revealed
