The author of the film 20 days in Mariupol told how important it is to convey the most important message about the war in our country in a speech.
Director Mstislav Chernov spoke about the reaction of Hollywood stars to his performance at the Oscar presentation for the best documentary film 20 days in Mariupol. He spoke about this in an interview with the Voice of America.
According to him, he did not know what to say in his speech, for which only 45 seconds were allotted. Many Ukrainians offered their own ideas about what Chernov should have said in case of victory.
“It was actually quite difficult to decide what to say. There is a lot of stuff, but you need to fit it into the 45 seconds reserved for the stage,” he noted.
Mstislav Chernov also added that during his performance on the Oscar stage there was complete silence in the hall.
“I felt that there was such silence in the hall that you could hear your heart cry. It was the biggest silence that I heard in this hall during the whole ceremony. So I felt, yes, I was heard. And several people said to me after the ceremony that they were crying. And I was very happy to realize that my words reached their hearts,” said Chernov.
In addition, the director said that the directors and actors of the world expressed support and concern for the war in Ukraine.
We remind you that for the first time in history, a Ukrainian film received an Oscar – the most prestigious film award in the world.
