The Ukrainian film won Best Documentary Film according to the British Academy of Film Arts.
The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony was held at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 18 February.
For a category award Best Documentary Mstislav Chernov’s film “20 days in Mariupol” was nominated. In the end the Ukrainian film won.
This film also competed for an award in the category Best Foreign Language Filmhowever, another film won.
The film tells the story of the 20 days director Mstislav Chernov spent with his colleagues in besieged Mariupol after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.
On the 21st day of the war, journalists left Mariupol in a humanitarian corridor. At the end of the film, the text appears that the city was completely occupied by Russia for 86 days.
The film received the Audience Award on January 27, 2023 as Best Foreign Documentary at the film festival Sundance.
We remind you that the director of the film “20 Days in Mariupol” was awarded the Directors Guild of America Award for “outstanding directorial achievements in documentary film”.
