Pope Francis explained that blessings for LGBT+ marriages must work differently in Africa
O Pope Francis commented, again, on the blessings of the Catholic Church on LGBT+ marriages. The religious man said that he is hopeful and happy with the leadership’s decision to allow this special moment.
On the subject, he commented on one detail: he explained that blessings must occur according to the place in which they are being given. In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa, Pope Francis said that in Africa blessings must happen differently.
The religious highlighted that, locally, same-sex relationships are seen as “something bad”, so the blessings will need to work in a different way.
“But in general, I trust that gradually everyone will be reassured by the spirit of the ‘Fiducia Supplicans’ statement of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith: it aims to include, not divide,” he said.
He reinforced the importance of understanding the sensitivities of the place where the blessings will be given.
“Naturally it is necessary to take into account the context, sensitivities, the places where one lives and the most appropriate ways of doing so”, he said.
