The man spread many posts on social networks about Shakira, which was reported to the authorities by his security service.
A stalking suspect who claims Shakira is his wife has been arrested outside his Miami home. This happened after he allegedly sent her gifts – wine, chocolates and toys. The Daily Mail reported this.
Daniel John Valtier was taken into custody on Monday, Jan. 8, and charged with one count of stalking, an arrest report said.
The 56-year-old from El Paso, Texas allegedly circulated numerous social media posts about Shakira that were reported to authorities by his security team.
Before his arrest, he arrived at the star’s house in a taxi. The man was arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday, where he said he could not comply with orders to stay away from the Colombian singer.
“He is my wife. I always talk to him,” he told the judge.
It was noted that Shakira’s security service asked Valte to stop sending her gifts and publishing information about her on the Internet. But they were concerned when they noticed an Instagram post where he allegedly bragged about visiting the artist’s house in Miami.
When he appeared in court Tuesday, prosecutors asked that he be jailed. The judge ordered Valtier to stay away from Shakira and not talk to her, despite the suspect saying they are married. The judge then doubled his bail to $100,000 and ordered him to stop sending the packages and try to communicate with Shakira.
Valte is known to have a criminal history that dates back to 1988 and has been arrested on charges including drugs, aggravated assault, driving while intoxicated and public intoxication. He was last arrested in El Paso in 2019 for a felony, records show.
It was previously reported that a 6.5-meter bronze statue of singer Shakira performing her iconic belly dance was unveiled in the Colombian city of Barranquilla.
