Benjamin Zephaniah, best known for his role as Preacher Jeremiah in the series Peaky Blinders (English Peaky Blinders)died at the age of 65. The Sun reported this.
It was reported that he died on December 7 after an eight-week battle with brain cancer. His wife was nearby.
“Benjamin was a true innovator, he gave so much to the world. He left us a happy and amazing legacy: an incredible amount of poetry, literary works, music, television and radio project,” the family said in a statement.
It is worth recalling that Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Zephaniah was born in Birmingham in 1958. His father was a postman and his mother was a nurse. The famous actor had dyslexia, so he left school at the age of 13, never learned to write or read, but became one of the most famous poets of modern Britain.
He is said to have been inspired to become a writer when he was given an old manual typewriter.
Zephaniah published several poetry collections, as well as five novels and seven plays. He became known for his innovative performances of “dub poetry” set to reggae beats.
In 2008, he was included in The Times list of the 50 best post-war British writers.
His autobiography The Life and Poems of Benjamin Zephaniah was nominated for a Costa Book Award in 2018.
