The actor spoke about his experience growing up as a gay child living in a conservative rural area of England.
The actor Jonathan Baileyknown for his role in the series Bridgerton, spoke about what it was like being a gay child in a conservative rural area of England.
He talked about how people “outside the norm” were seen as “not acceptable” in the community where he spent his childhood and adolescence. In an interview with Gay Times, Jonathan spoke a little about the subject.
“That’s how I felt growing up, simply because I didn’t know any gay people around me,” he spoke.
Jonathan is starring in a gay romance alongside the actor Matthew Bomercalled Companheiros de Viagem, and revealed that he is dedicating his time in a partnership with the institution Just Like Us, which works with schools and colleges that ensure that young queer people can have opportunities.
During the interview, the actor commented on how he understood his sexuality since he was 11 years old, however, the lack of LGBTQIAPN+ representation prevented him from “blossoming” completely.
“The media put out such negative stories regarding the plight of the gay experience, so I didn’t really have access to anything that made me feel welcome or that I would be okay, and I was someone who was very conscious about who I was.” , commented.
“I talked about it since I was 11 years old. I wonder what my life would have been like if vocabulary and ambassadors had entered my school. This would definitely have helped me feel safer and flourish faster. For me, that kind of confidence in myself came later in life because I didn’t have that,” he added.
