Eduardo Costa will have to pay compensation of R$70,000 to the Fernanda Lima. The decision was made by the judge Eric Scapim Cunha Brandãofrom the 24th Civil Court of Rio de Janeiro, which condemned the singer for moral damages to the presenter.
The case, which happened in 2018, involved a series of insults on social media. After the program aired Love and sex, presented by Fernanda, the artist published messages saying that she was an “imbecile” and that the attraction was made for “potheads, criminals, defeated leftists, and for projects by artists like her”. Furthermore, the singer also called on the public to boycott the program.
“This is an action in which the plaintiff intends to be compensated for moral damages due to the accusations identified as insulting, defamatory and angry that were allegedly made by the defendant in a post on Instagram. In view of the above, I consider the plaintiff’s requests to condemn the defendant to pay the amount of R$ 70 thousand, plus late payment interest of 1% per month from the damaging event (comment on social network)”put the judge in the sentence.
Eduardo was also ordered to pay the costs and fees of the case amounting to 20% of the sentence.
The singer’s conviction is in the first instance and can still be appealed.
