The idea of the initiative is to make museums a safer and more inclusive place for LGBTQIAP+ people
UK museums have started a new project. Cultural venues have been provided with new guidelines on how to provide a safe and inclusive experience for trans children.
The “Trans Inclusive Culture: Guidelines on advancing trans inclusion for museums, galleries, archives and heritage organizations”, the name of the manual, has 44 pages which detail that museums should be places where trans children go and want to go .
Published by the University of Leicester, England, the guide aims to encourage museums to help children explore their gender identity in a light and positive way.
The Research Center for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) pointed out that venues and staff should wear posters, flags and badges so that children can explore their identities without fear of being reprimanded.
The manual also recommends that museums have bathrooms and changing rooms that people can use according to their gender and that employees be careful not to use offensive terms.
