Uýra – Retaking the Forest arrives with everything for the public this Friday, 8th, on Canal Brasil at 6:45 pm.
The documentary of Juliana Curi accompanies Uýra Sodoman indigenous trans artist who travels through the Amazon Rainforest and, through performance art, teaches young people about their ancestries.
The film received awards at international festivals, such as Best Documentary by the Popular Jury at the Frameline International LGBTQ+ Film Festival in San Francisco; Best Indigenous Feature Film at the Bend Film Festival; and Jury Prize at London Film Week.
In the film, Uýra uses her art to educate young people and leads a movement that promotes unity and inspires LGBTQIAP+ and environmentalist movements in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. The artist’s performances are motivated mainly by nature and social struggles and portray the destruction of the soil and violence against life, which are overcome by the emergence of young plants that pave the way for a new and stronger ecosystem.
