It is known that he died due to liver failure. Shortly before his death, the singer ended up in a hospice. As you know, for a long time the artist abused alcohol. His health problems started in 2021.
The musician’s death was announced by the group’s spokesman, Robert Geyse. She shared that Stephen Garvell passed away surrounded by family and friends at his home in Boise, Idaho.
“Steve has been out of Smash Mouth for two years and the band continues to tour with new vocalist Zach Good. However, Steve’s legacy will live on through music. With Steve, Smash Mouth is has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and topped the charts with two #1 singles, five top 40 singles, three hot 100 singles, four Billboard 200 albums and a Grammy nomination, not to mention the hundred- hundreds of movies and TV placements, and of course those Shrek soundtracks,” he said.
It is worth noting that Smash Mouth was created in 1994 and originally consisted of Steve Garvell, Kevin Coleman, Greg Camp and Paul De Lyle. With Garvell’s departure in 2021, De Lyle is now the only original member. They are known for their songs Walkin on the Sun, All Star. The band also recorded a cover of The Monkees’ track I’m A Believer, which became the soundtrack to the cartoon Shrek.
