The International Chess Federation (Fide) banned the participation of trans women in women’s championships
The International Chess Federation (Fide) communicated an important decision: the institution imposed a new rule that prohibits the participation of trans women in competing in tournaments in the female category.
The decision is validated in the new regulation published by the Federation.
According to Fide, until each situation is analyzed by the officials, the determination will be valid. The institution has received a series of recognition requests from athletes who consider themselves trans and the participation of the players depends on an analysis.
The Federation claims: “if a player holds any of the female titles, but the gender is changed to male, the female titles shall be abolished”. However, if the reassignment is made from male to female, the trophies will be validated.
