The team of the singer’s foundation had to make a 700-kilometer journey to Ukraine before bringing the bear to Romania.
American singer Cher shares the story of rescuing Masha the bear from a Ukrainian zoo during a massive war. He spoke about it in an interview with the Daily Mail.
According to the 77-year-old star, before the start of the war between our country and Russia, representatives of his Free The Wild Foundation came to Ukraine and rescued several lions, a tiger and a panther from the zoo .
After a few hours, he received a message that the deputies were unable to remove one of the bears, and he had to organize a mission to find the missing animal.
“We had to walk back in a big pickup truck and take Masha out during the war,” Cher said.
Some updates about how Masha the bear was rescued were posted on the Free The Wild Instagram account in March last year. A message was also circulated saying the foundation team had to make a “700-kilometer journey” to Ukraine to deliver the bear to a reserve in Romania.
Arriving at the reserve, Masha quickly began to settle into her new environment and “for the first time in her life she saw another brown bear when she took her first steps in her new safe place.”
The bear was well received by other bears and now enjoys the vastness of the reserve – 70 hectares compared to the small cage where he lived for 19 years.
