Rafa Brites apologizes after using a capacitist expression: “Mad with myself”

The presenter apologized after using the expression in a video on her social networks

On the night of last Monday, the 14th, Rafael Brites used his social networks to apologize after using a capacitist expression in a video he had posted earlier on the web.

The presenter used the word “blunder” to refer to a slip that a friend can make with another. After talking about her slip, the influencer cited other expressions that should not be used, as they denote capacitism.

“This morning, I made a very cute, very sweet reel about friendship. This reel was shared, it was commented, it was a hit, but I’m very scared, because I made a mistake in this reel”, started.

“And more than being scared of my mistake — because I’m so mad at myself — I’m scared, because I only got one comment about it, and a friend who called me on WhatsApp, and that’s just how I realized it,” added.

“I used a capable expression, which disparages people with disabilities (in this case specifically). I know that a lot of people will say that this is ‘mimimi’, that you didn’t mean to, but it’s not ‘mimimi'”, he said.

“If I’m offending someone, why don’t I change that expression? […] As long as we don’t change how we verbalize things, the world really won’t change”, continued.

“I used the expression ‘blunder’, but I separated other expressions for us to take from everyday life and not use anymore, okay?”, scored.

“First I would like to apologize, second I want to thank my friend Paty for warning me. I thought it was very important to come here […] I don’t want to repeat it anymore and I would like you not to repeat it there either, okay? Thanks”, finished.
