On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Theodotus of Ancyra. He lived in the 3rd century, when the emperor Diocletian, known for his persecution of Christians, ruled. Theodotus continued to shelter in his house the believers who fled from the cruelty of the king, gave them food and clothing, and also visited the martyrs in the dungeons, performed the rites of Christian burial.
Subsequently, he was captured and forced to renounce Christ and glorify idols. But the saint refused, whereupon he was subjected to terrible torture, and then his head was cut off with a sword.
It is forbidden to work physically on this day. Do not swim in open water. Do not drink alcohol and do not slander.
