At a press conference dedicated to his film Killers of the Flower Moon, a journalist asked him how he felt about Russia’s invasion of Ukrainian territory, noting that his film reminded him of it.
Here, Martin Scorsese said he was concerned about Ukraine, and noted that he was actively monitoring the situation.
“I am very nervous about the Russian invasion, I am very nervous about this situation. The younger generation does not remember the Second World War. They do not remember the Balkan people and what happened there, and what happened in Poland in the 19th century,” he said. Martin Scorsese.
The American director also noted the need to protect freedom of speech in the world.
“We have to support countries that at least try to join democratic processes. It reminds me of the 1930s, when there was no democracy. Today it is deeper and stronger. It is definitely connected to the values of the way of life that a person rules. Freedom of speech is really the most important thing. It does not mean that you can shout about fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire. Freedom of speech is necessary to express your mind in peacetime .Of course, here we are talking about a peaceful and benevolent word as such,” concluded Martin Scorsese.
Asked about injustices around the world, Martin Scorsese said he was “very, very nervous about the Russian invasion” and the war in Ukraine. https://t.co/gPQEepqqVh #Cannes #KillersOfTheFlowerMoon pic.twitter.com/1BRKzNoAcp
