Zelensky planned to call on the world community to expand support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia’s military aggression.
The organizers of Eurovision refused the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to make a speech at the finals of the international song contest. The reason for this is the apolitical character. This was reported by the EBU.
“The Eurovision Song Contest is an international entertainment show governed by strict rules and principles established since its inception. As part of this, one of the foundations of the Contest is the non-political nature of the event . This principle prohibits the possibility of making political or similar statements within the contest. Please Zelensky to address the audience at the Eurovision Song Contest, despite the fact that it was done with laudable intentions , unfortunately, will not be satisfied by the leadership of the European Language Union, because it is contrary to the rules of the event,” said the statement.
At the same time, the European Linguistic Union recalled that Ukraine, its music, culture and creativity were widely represented in the competition. At least 11 Ukrainian artists, including last year’s winners, will perform or take part in the semi-finals or the grand final.
It was previously reported that Alyosha performed in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool with British star Rebecca Ferguson.
