The estimated value of the diamond is around $30 million. And it’s not about its size, but about its cult status and popularity.
The iconic Tiffany Yellow Diamond, weighing 128.54 carats, received a new setting. This was done specifically for the opening of the updated flagship store The Landmark, located at 5-1 Avenue in New York, writes Harpers Bazaar.
The frame was inspired by Jeanne Schlumberger Bird on the rock. So, a diamond can be worn both as a brooch and as necklaces.
As you know, for the first time a diamond was framed in 1957 with white diamonds and placed on a diamond chain. It was then presented to the public by socialite Mary Whitehouse – the wife of an American diplomat who put it on at the Tiffany Feather Ball charity evening in 1957.
The second time the frame was changed in 1961. Then it was made for the premiere of a cult film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Jean Schlumberger created the Ribbon Rosette necklace. Movie star Audrey Hepburn wore it.
The diamond was placed for the third time in Schlumberger’s classic Bird on a rock design at the designer’s Paris Retrospective in 1995.
The fourth frame was made in 2012 for Tiffany & Co.’s 175th anniversary. The diamond was placed in a simple necklace with a white diamond weighing more than 100 carats. Beyoncé wore it for an ad campaign. He also beautified Lady Gaga’s neck at the 2019 Oscars.
The gem was found in the Kimberley mine in South Africa in 1877. A year later, Charles Lewis Tiffany bought it for $18,000.
Recall that earlier a diamond was put up for sale for $ 35 million.
