Relive the wizarding world of Hogwarts with some little-known facts about the saga

It was announced this week during a Warner Bros. Discovery, that the Harry Potter franchise will win a new series on the Max streaming platform, which unites HBO Max and Discovery +. The new series, titled “Harry Potter: Hogwarts”, will follow the lives of students at the famous school of witchcraft and wizardry, including the trio of characters: Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Each season will be based on one of the seven books of the saga, with the objective of offering more details and depth to the stories already explored in the 8 films. The production estimates that the series will be produced and released over the course of a decade.

While there is excitement on social media, some people have expressed frustration with the announcement of a remake of an adaptation still so fresh and beloved by fans. In addition, no artist who participated in the first original features will be part of the new version of the story.

To remember the history of the school and the saga, check out 8 little-known facts about Harry Potter!

1. Set of millions

The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry set, set up on the studios Warner Bros.’s Leavesden, was the largest set ever built for a film at the time it was made, spanning over 15,000 square meters, including the Great Hall, the Gryffindor Common Room, the Headmaster’s Office and many other areas of the school. .

2. Two scars

Although the lightning scar is a iconic symbol of the Harry Potter series, JK Rowling originally conceived Harry’s scar as a double lightning bolt. However, she realized that it would be difficult to describe and decided to simplify it down to a single ray.

3. Banned books

According to the American Library Association, the Harry Potter books were the most banned books in US schools for a decade, from 1990 to 2000. The main reason is that parents and teachers saw the work as “evil”.

4. Writing

“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” was the first film in the series to change directors, with Alfonso Cuarón taking over as director. Cuarón even asked actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint to write an essay about their characters so he could get to know them better. The cast’s responses mirrored the characters perfectly: Radcliffe wrote a page about Harry’s heart; Watson wrote 16 pages about Hermione and Rupert Grint wrote nothing – much like Ron would.

5. Hagrid Almost Had Another Actor

Actor Robin Williams was a big fan of the Harry Potter books and asked for the role of Hagrid when he heard they were going to be adapted into movies. However, author JK Rowling demanded that the entire cast be British or Irish, which prevented Williams, an American, from auditioning. Thus, the character was lived by Robbie Coltrane.

6. Harry, Ron or Draco?

Tom Felton, the actor who portrayed Draco Malfoy, was not originally intended to be the series’ villain. He auditioned for the roles of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, but was cast as Draco after Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint were cast in the lead roles.

7. Hat with personality

Initially, the Sorting Hat was just a normal wearable, belonging to the founder of the Gryffindor, Godric Gryffindor, according to the author’s initial conception. However, the hat idea evolved, and JK Rowling decided that it should have its own personality and the ability to read students’ minds to sort them into the appropriate houses.

8. Love of brothers

A curiosity within the very fictional history of the sagas is related to the death of Fred Weasley. In the books, his twin brother, George, was never again able to perform a Patronus Charm, which indicates that he was never completely happy again.
