Discover the layers that make up your being beyond the physical and live in a more integrated and harmonious way
The skin is that sensitive layer that covers us and assures us of a corporeal existence. But that doesn’t mean we’re done there, where the epidermis rubs against the atmosphere. It is not the last frontier of our being. We may not see or touch it, but we carry around other bodies besides the physical one, which makes our understanding of what life on Earth is even more sophisticated.
Biology classes at school enlightened us about what is elementary in our daily life: nourishing ourselves and, with that, having energy to carry out a series of daily activities. However, we are not diesel powered machines. Our thoughts, feelings and intuitions are also part of us and pulsate in certain vibrations.
What is energy?
When we hear “everything is energy”, we can interpret that, behind every thing that exists, we find a support network, a web of vital energy, whose spectrum extends from the most concrete to the most tenuous manifestations. She is called Qi, by Chinese medicine, and Prana, by the yogic tradition. For millennia, these wisdoms affirmed what science proves today: the atoms that originate matter are pure energy in transit.
“Energy is information in motion. This means that everything about us, even our inaudible thoughts, secret desires and the vibration of the tiniest atoms within us, communicates in a grander picture. It also indicates that whatever happens in the known and unknown world around us creates a change within us”, defines the therapist.

The energy wants to circulate
According to energy medicine, we are made up of energy fields, channels and centers. Fields relate to the vibrations we radiate and circulate around us; the channels are like veins of light that carry energy through us; and the centers are energetic bodies whose function is to transmute and transform our vibrational state.
As everything is interconnected in the macro and microcosm, the subtle reality interconnects with the physical plane. For example, each organ in our body performs a function that can be monitored by scientific means, but it also vibrates at a certain frequency, which can lose or gain balance according to our mental or emotional state. In the first case, we get sick; in the second we restore health. This is how traditional Chinese medicine understands.
“The meridians or channels are equivalent to our energy constitution, carrying information for the establishment and restoration of health. They represent the connection between heaven and earth, whose main function is to make communication between the internal, the organs, with the external environment, its seasonal influences, as well as emotions, food and breathing”, explains Antonieta Bonifácio dos Reis, professor of acupuncture.
meridian pillars
This energy network consists of a mesh of 12 main meridians, a circuit that goes from head to feet and from feet to head, in addition to secondary meridians, a transverse route that offers support to the matrix. The more naturally energy flows through this map, free of energetic blockages or excesses, the better we will feel.
“Anything that resists the natural flow of impermanence and cyclicity interferes with the conduction of Qi. [energia vital] by the meridians. A contained anger, an unfelt sadness, an excess of concern, as well as an unbalanced diet, even the invasion of cold or heat in the body can cause illness”, points out Antonieta.
interconnected dimensions
The dynamics of our organs shows how the human being is multidimensional, that is, composed of several instances that affect each other. “Sometimes we need to do something physical to stimulate these subtle energies, but we also need to stimulate subtle energies to find a way. physical balance”, points out Cyndi. The holistic wisdoms establish different nomenclatures for the variety of bodies that compose us. There are currents that identify five layers: physical, etheric, emotional, mental and spiritual.
The etheric is the one that bridges the gap between the physical body and the more subtle ones. Others deal with the physical, morphological, psychic, auric, and universal light dimensions. Detailing a little more, we arrive at seven bodies: physical, etheric double, astral, mental, causal, buddhic and atmic. In all cases, an energetic gradation is seen, starting from the grossest, corporeal sphere, up to the highest consciousness and, therefore, associated with the divine plan.
“The energetic constitution of the human being is an energy complex that brings together the entire history of humanity, filtered by ancestry, until reaching our singularity. It forms our field full of information from the time and space in which we were born, information from the paternal and maternal origin, from other times of our existence and from the marks of the interactions that we experience from birth and even before”, expands Ana Lúcia Leite, therapist and teacher at Escola da Aura.
It may seem like a web that is too intricate for us to understand, but in practice it is not so airtight. This view understands that our experiences and memories are engraved in the energetic dimension. These records can be patterns, beliefs and other dynamics that influence our way of acting in the world. All this is intangible, yes, but it can be transmuted.
care that protects us
Being aware of the breadth of our being allows us to recognize our limits and take better care of ourselves. How many times do we want something from the physical without taking into account other more subtle fields? How many times do we think that we are going to finish our tasks in a certain amount of time without taking into account our emotional state and our energy? Or do we disregard sensations and perceptions provoked in us by certain environments or people?
By having a more complete view of our bodies, we can respect and value them in their multiple expressions. Perhaps there lies a reliable path to harmony. “To connect with this ethereal dimension, it is important to awaken our intuition and subtle senses. The signs are around us all the time and we can perceive them through perceptions captured by our sixth sense, dreams, impressions, sensations like a presentiment of going somewhere instead of another”, exemplifies Ana Lúcia.
It is not by chance that some people say they have a closed body, because the attention dedicated to the subtle reality helps us in protection, preventing our system from being crossed by energies that do not support our well-being or our essence. By the opposite way, it favors the penetration of frequencies that foment our spiritual evolution and still magnetize our internal magnet. “Our energetic limits can attract to us what we need: healing, guidance, people, events, healthy relationships and life lessons”, lists Cyndi.

Techniques to eliminate negative energy
Energy hygiene can be done through practices such as reiki, visualizations, prayers and meditations. “Meditative practices are very important, such as Meditation das Rosas, the main tool of Escola da Aura for this care, as it brings us closer to the luminous origin of being”, observes Ana Lúcia. Another way to integrate the subtle sphere is through yoga.
“Existence is a sign for us to connect with the so-called subtle dimension, not because it is more important than the corporeal dimension, but because it is connected. We are multidimensional beings, and Prana is a primordial manifestation of being”, says Raquel Peres, yoga teacher.
Daily care to maintain energy
According to the Vedic Scriptures, the vital energy network spreads out as follows: “There are vayus (winds) that blow and conduct, like energy channels, and types of Prana, so that breath reaches all tissues. There is a need to balance the Prana responsible for nutrition with that which is responsible for purification, as well as ensuring the flow through these channels (vayus)”, Raquel scrutinizes.
We can combine different treatments in our daily lives to keep our energy in good condition. “A nutritious diet with few toxins, the non-use of psychoactives, the yoga practice while breathing, meditation and movement nourish us enough to be protected in most situations, but it is interesting that there is also a certain withdrawal and the practice of mantras”, recommends the yoga teacher.
There are also other very accessible gestures, which only require a little openness to what raises our vibration. “The cultivation of joy, contemplation, the meaning we give to our lives, sparkle in the eyes, compassionate attitudes and actions and benevolence with ourselves and with others”, says Antonieta. Afterwards, just feel this state reverberate in our different bodies and enjoy that good energy, which is ours, but which also spills over to whoever is lucky enough to cross our path.
