With homages to teen slashers, Until Dawn’s successor delivers fun and mystery to audiences
Those who played Until Dawn must remember the feeling of seeing people die because you didn’t do something that seemed silly or answer what you shouldn’t have for a character. Since then, Supermassive has specialized in this genre of interactive drama mixed with survival horror and launched the Dark Pictures Anthology series. However, everything about it is very serious and intended to be tense and legitimate horror.
Why The Quarry is out of Dark Pictures?
The Quarry is out of Dark Pictures because it’s the spiritual sequel to Until Dawn – it’s another movie of not-so-smart kids making questionable decisions and trying to survive. It’s the classic formula: summer camp, emotional young people in weird relationships with the classic stereotypes of the genre, a sheriff who is slow to understand the gravity of the situation… and some monsters.
game references
The game is full of tributes to teen slashers, like Friday the 13th and other films from different eras. However, it takes a step away from Until Dawn’s constant random scares in order to build tension in other ways, which should already please many who didn’t enjoy the 2015 game as much.
new modalities and advantages of the game
The Quarry also has more options for multiplayers, as a lot of people played Until Dawn that way, which makes it a lot more fun. The story has some very good moments where the choices take anyone by surprise; and that keeps you playing even in the hours when the events get lukewarm or the progression becomes too slow.
Great option, too, in the Plus catalogue, because, for some reason, the game costs more than normal for PS4 on the Brazilian PSN, and few people ended up playing it here. Dark Pictures fans will enjoy this one, and those who enjoyed Until Dawn and disliked the next series will enjoy it even more.
