After the fashion market, the next to break through gender barriers is makeup. Back in 2018, Future Laboratory, one of the largest trending coolhunter agencies in the world, predicted the breakdown of stereotypes that frame masculinity, bringing greater flexibility to gender issues. The main precursors of this new trend are Gen Z, who propagate their ideas through major social networks, mainly Instagram and TikTok.
Emerson Damas it’s part of it. The makeup artist and influencer, who has more than 2 million followers on his social networks, said that, even though he is now impacting people, his desire to do something different started way back.
“The artistic world has always been my passion. When I was younger, I participated in a project that made me evolve a lot as an artist, every day there were classes in singing, dancing, theater and what I loved the most, drawing and painting techniques on screens,” he says. “At the age of 16, I started creating drawing content for the internet, little by little I ended up finding myself in the world of artistic makeup.”, he spoke.
And even though space is getting small for so many male content creators, the influencer reveals that this is not a competition.
“Before, you could count the number of male creators on your fingers, today there are several that rock a lot, including consumption and I am inspired by most of them!”, commented.
Regarding makeup, Emerson pointed out that men still have a lot of resistance to the use of makeup, and that they only use the basics of the basics.
“But I think makeup is nothing more than a way to enhance our beauty. Even for me, and even though my content is well deconstructed, the biggest audience is women.”, commented.
Despite the present perspective, Emerson says he is hopeful for the future of agender makeup.
“Nowadays, there are several male content creators increasingly deconstructing the market and showing that everyone can use and abuse makes”, commented.
And if the question is how to take advantage of the trend on a daily basis, the influencer reveals that makeup should be used as a form of expression. “Be creative”, advised.
