The danger of diets that promise miracles

Nutritionists explain how fast diets can put your health at risk

Soup, moon, protein, bread or green tea diet. There are different types, each with a restriction, but in the end, they all promise quick weight loss. However, it is important to know that so-called miracle diets do not work in a healthy way for the body.

What are the risks of miracle diets?

As nutritionist Gabriela Mendes explains, “very restrictive diets can cause symptoms such as weakness, malaise, dizziness, headaches, indisposition and bad mood”. According to her, these symptoms are mainly related to low carbohydrate intake (a nutrient commonly removed from these miracle diets), which is the body’s main source of energy.

Do not exclude carbohydratesfrom the diet

The nutritionist also warns that, under no circumstances, carbohydrates should be excluded fromeating habits. That’s because he’s the fuel of our organism, which gives us energy for daily activities. “The ideal is to replace it with whole grains and consume it in moderation”, he says.

Carbohydrate elimination is just one of the examples of restriction that miracle diets require. Many of them recommend living only on juices, fruits or just leaves, as well as asking you to go without food for a very long period of time. All of this in exchange for less pounds in just a few weeks.

Consequences of fast weight loss

In these cases, weight loss can really happen quickly. However, the result will be the recovery of those extra kilos also quickly and the gain of the popular accordion effect. “When we lose weight quickly, we not only lose fat, but also muscle mass and water. When carrying out this type of diet, the metabolism tends to slow down, which can cause a new weight gain at the end of the diet”, says Gabriela Mendes.

Why is it difficult to lose weight?

All this anxiety about losing weight quickly happens because of the difficulty that many people have inlose weight. So, when trying to make healthy diets and not seeing a quick result, they give up and resort to restrictive ways of losing weight.

Indeed, it is easier to gain weight than to lose it and, according to nutritionist Rosana Farah, this happens because the body has a metabolic record to save energy. That is, it saves more energy than we often manage to spend.

Opt for less restrictive diets

The important thing is to opt for low-restrictive diets, more healthy and guided by a nutritionist. After all, as Rosana Farah states, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals are essential food sources for the proper functioning of the body. And in that sense, it is these diets that have everything the human body needs.

That way, you will not only lose weight, how you will eliminate the bad habits that surround your routine. Relearning how to eat is fundamental and, with an adequate food program, weight loss is definitive. In addition, knowledge about what is right and what is wrong in food will accompany you for the rest of your life.
