English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed the tragic events that led to the creation of his new album, Subtract, which will be released on May 5.
In particular, the artist admitted that he has been working on this acoustic record for ten years, however, due to difficulties that occurred in February last year, he rewrote everything in a week.
“I worked on Subtract for ten years, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. Then, in early 2022 , a series of events changed my life, mental health “At the end of the day, my relationship with music and art. Songwriting is my therapy. It helps me understand my feelings. I wrote without thinking about what the songs would be, I just wrote what came out. And in just one week I replaced a decade of work with my deepest, darkest thoughts,” he wrote on Instagram.
Ed Sheeran also added that a year ago, his wife Cherry Seaborn was diagnosed with a tumor while he was in position, so the treatment had to be postponed. He also mentioned the death of his best friend and plagiarism cases.
“My best friend Jamal, my brother, died suddenly, and I ended up in court defending my integrity and my career as a songwriter. I was overcome with fear, depression and anxiety. Feeling I was drowning with my head in the water. , looked up, but could not show. As an artist, I did not feel that I could adequately present a work in the world that did not show where I was and how I needed to express myself at that point this in my life.
